You can do some research yourself by lighting a cigar and trying some of the rums in your bar. It is of course essential to have fun first. Or you can push the cursor in one direction, aiming for a very dry and woody profile. One can thus go in search of balance, by associating a cigar with pastry aromas with a spicy rum. Do you want a smooth accord? Woody? Spicy? It's your taste that counts, but you can still try several proposals. The first step is to identify your own preferences and define what you are looking for. One should not be reductive, because there is as much variety within a single rum tradition as there is in a range of cigars. Talking about rum and cigar pairings is not as obvious as it sounds, because the magic is in the nuances.
